Chef Job Description

Zen Japanese Restaurant is seeking a skilled Chef to join our team. As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will be responsible for creating new recipes, instructing cooks, and supervising kitchen staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create new recipes and menus for our restaurant
  • Instruct and train cooks in preparation, cooking, and presentation of food
  • Supervise and manage kitchen staff, ensuring efficient and safe food preparation
  • Prepare and cook food on a regular basis, or for special guests or functions
  • Requisition food and kitchen supplies, maintaining high standards of quality and freshness
  • Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances, ensuring their safety and satisfaction
  • Train staff in preparation, cooking, and handling of food, promoting a culture of excellence and teamwork

Requirements:

  • 3 years to less than 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to train and motivate staff
  • Knowledge of Japanese cuisine and cooking techniques, with a passion for innovation and creativity
