Developmental Care Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Developmental Care Specialist to join our team at The Salvation Army. This is a part-time position, working 24 hours per week.
Job SummaryThe Developmental Care Specialist will be responsible for the care of children who visit the Bethany Hope Centre. This includes planning and delivering childcare programs within the applicable legal, financial, and safety framework.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and implement age-based activities that promote social interaction and personal development.
- Support the scheduling of childcare spots and interact with parents regarding space available in the childcare.
- Provide ongoing feedback and engagement with parents on child's development and behavior.
- Maintain confidentiality and record information about children, family, staff, visitors, and volunteers as per policy and protocol.
- Support parent/child intakes and child development assessments as required.
- Model appropriate behaviors and attitudes supporting growth and promoting change for the child and family.
- Participate in ongoing training in the areas of trauma and infant/child mental health.
- Provide emergency first aid and complete reports and files incident reports as required.
- Prepare healthy snacks and maintain facility cleanliness.
- This is a permanent part-time position working 24 hours per week.
- Typical working conditions are in a childcare room as well as an office for admin work.
- The job requires lifting/moving equipment and children, and room set-up, active involvement with children for most of the day, occasional computer work, cleaning the facility, and putting up wall displays.
- A High School diploma or equivalent, plus a specialized Early Childhood Education Assistant course or equivalent (Child and Youth Worker, full ECE).
- Registered Early Childhood Education Assistant or registered with an equivalent association (Child and Youth Worker Association).
- Certificate in Infant/Child Mental Health an asset.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification within 2 years.
