Job Title: Orthopedic Technologist

BC Children's Hospital is seeking a skilled Orthopedic Technologist to join our team. As an Orthopedic Technologist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and assisting physicians with various orthopedic procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist physicians with applying, modifying, adjusting, and removing braces, splints, and casts using various techniques and materials.
  • Document patient care and treatment on ambulatory registration forms or health record forms.
  • Prepare cast room and operating room tables for special procedures and maintain orthopedic equipment.
  • Assemble equipment for positioning and posturing orthopedic patients and assist physicians and nurses as needed.
  • Set up traction as directed by an Orthopedic Surgeon and instruct patients on its use.
  • Assist with positioning and posturing patients for operations and support patients' limbs during surgical preparation.
  • Apply tourniquets as required and teach casting and splinting techniques to patients.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from a recognized program in Orthopedic Technology and current registration with the Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technicians.
  • Two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • CPR Training - Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) - Level I.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments.
