Job Summary:

The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is seeking a qualified Child Care Assistant to join our team at the Little Infinity Child Care Centre. As a Child Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and education to children, while also supporting the delivery of Métis-specific programming and curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a positive, inclusive, and culturally sensitive learning environment that supports the unique needs of Métis children;
  • Establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment that promotes physical, emotional, and social well-being;
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and deliver Métis-specific programming and curriculum that aligns with the MMF's vision and values;
  • Support children's attempts to resolve conflicts and develop social skills through positive guidance and redirection;
  • Encourage children to express their feelings and assert their rights in socially acceptable ways;
  • Respond to incidents and handle emergencies in a calm and professional manner;
  • Maintain program equipment and assist with light housekeeping and cooking duties;
  • Attend regular staff meetings to discuss program progress, challenges, and best practices.

Requirements:

  • Recognized 40-hour course in early childhood education or a related field;
  • Minimum of one year's experience as a Child Care Assistant or relevant role with demonstrated ability to deliver programs and services;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Effective listening skills;
  • Dependable, reliable, and punctual;
  • Valid 1st Aid/CPR Certification;
  • Circle of Security Certificate an asset;
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check, Criminal Record Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, heritage, and language an asset;
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Circle of Security Certificate;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, heritage, and language;
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language.
