We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Counsel to join our Claims Litigation team at Definity. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing strategic legal advice and guidance on complex claims litigation matters.
Key Responsibilities- Lead Litigation Strategy: Develop and implement effective litigation strategies to achieve optimal outcomes for Definity.
- Provide Expert Advice: Offer expert legal advice and guidance to our Claims department on litigation handling, strategy, and risk management.
- Mentor and Train: Provide mentorship, training, and support to junior and intermediate claims counsel, as well as our claims partners, on all aspects of file handling and strategy.
- Contribute to Unit Strategies: Contribute to the development of overall Claims Litigation Unit strategies and policies.
- Travel and Representation: Travel as needed for claims litigation files and represent Definity in court and other legal proceedings.
- Experience: Minimum 10+ years of post-call experience working in civil litigation, ideally personal injury or insurance litigation with a law firm or in-house legal provider.
- Qualifications: Law Degree from an accredited law school (LLB or Juris Doctor) and licensed by and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Skills: Strong advocacy skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and excellent negotiation and facilitation skills.
- Competitive Salary: Salary range is $111,300 - $205,500.
