Corporate Communications Specialist

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Corporate Communications Advisor to join our team at Nova Scotia Power. As a key member of our Corporate Communications team, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing effective communications strategies to engage our internal and external audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing and enhancing our presence on various social media and digital platforms.
- Support social media content creation and channels, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Write engaging content for social and web platforms, including blogs and posts.
- Work closely with our Senior Communications Advisor to implement internal communications strategies and projects.
- Provide operational support for internal and external events, including logistical and communications requirements.
- Write and develop content, including drafting, editing, and distributing communications through various channels.
- Lead the gathering of content, writing, and editing of stories for our bi-weekly internal employee newsletter.
- Assist with implementing media relations strategies and projects.
- Maintain media contact lists and messaging documentation, monitor the media mailbox, and provide support for media inquiries.
- Perform a dedicated storm role on the Communications team as needed.
- Provide support for rotational weekend on-call work.
- Perform other communications duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Degree or diploma in Public Relations, Communications, or equivalent work-related experience.
- 3+ years of experience in Communications.
- An understanding of Corporate Communications.
- Tech-savvy with Intermediate/Advanced skills in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to learn quickly and solve problems.
- Strong organization and planning skills.
- Detail-oriented but also understands strategy and sees the big picture.
- Strong project management skills with a consistent focus on prioritizing projects, communicating project status, and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, often with minimal supervision, in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to multitask, take initiative, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to competing and/or rapidly changing priorities.
