Job Overview

The Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Operations Manager to join our team. This exciting opportunity will provide the successful candidate with the chance to utilize their financial expertise in a dynamic environment.

About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned professional with 5-7 years of experience in financial operations and management to lead our Finance Office. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and coordinating activities, supervising staff, creating and monitoring budgets, and overseeing expenditures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective financial strategies to optimize resource allocation;
  • Supervise and direct the work of finance staff to ensure efficient and accurate financial transactions;
  • Create and monitor budgets to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures;
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends and areas for improvement;
  • Prepare complex financial reports for senior management and stakeholders;
  • Liaise with various departments and units to resolve financial issues and improve workflow;
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and other teams to develop and implement policies and procedures;
  • Participate in committees and working groups to promote best practices and improve financial operations;
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in accounting standards, laws, and regulations affecting the university.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field, supplemented by a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation;
  • 5-7 years of experience in financial operations and management;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel;
  • Experience with Banner Finance and other accounting software;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Familiarity with university policies and procedures, as well as funding agency requirements.
