About the Role:

You will promote a patient and family-centered care approach by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of care providers in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner. You will have clinical expertise, competence, and technical skills related to the position. You must be flexible to changing priorities and committed to continuous learning and professional development.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate collaboratively within interprofessional healthcare teams with adult, pediatric, and newborn patients in the Critical Care Unit, ED, Inpatient Units, Labour & Delivery, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Operating Room
  • Provide ventilation management, weaning, and discontinuation
  • Perform as a member of Code Teams and Critical Care Response Team
  • Assist at high-risk deliveries performing neonatal resuscitation
  • Perform airway management including intubations and tracheostomy tube insertions
  • Perform insertion of arterial lines
  • Administer pharmaceutical substances in respiratory care
  • Perform related diagnostic tests including procurement and interpretation of arterial blood gases, assisting with bronchoscopies
  • Supervise, teach, and evaluate students as assigned by clinical coordinator
  • Educate patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals in respiratory care
  • Demonstrate the ability to lift and position patients and related equipment

Qualifications:

  • Diploma/Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited institution
  • Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required
  • Current Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required
  • Current NRP certification required
  • Experience in adult intubation and adult radial arterial line insertion
  • Membership with C.S.R.T. and R.T.S.O. preferred
  • Experience in neonatal intubation preferred
