Job Summary:
The City of St. Catharines is seeking a highly skilled Fire Communications Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our emergency response team, you will be responsible for answering emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance, dispatching fire and public safety units, and providing exceptional customer service to the public.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, complaints, and inquiries from the public.
- Determine the nature and urgency of requests for service and prioritize effectively.
- Dispatch fire and public safety units in accordance with established procedures.
- Operate a variety of communication equipment, including emergency radio systems and computerized dispatch consoles.
- Retrieve information in response to requests from fire units and monitor the status and location of units.
- Coordinate public safety and mutual aid operations with partner agencies.
- Maintain a daily report of fire alarm system status.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- CPR and Standard First Aid training.
- Exceptional oral communication and listening skills.
- Demonstrated multi-tasking ability.
- Experience in public safety telecommunication fields, including Fire, Police, and EMS Communications.
- Ability to learn and maintain advanced knowledge of the geography of the Niagara Region, Haldimand County, and Norfolk County.
- Valid Ontario Driver's License, minimum Class "G".
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
- Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software programs.
