About the Role

The Principal Control Systems position at BHP Group is a key role in the development and management of autonomous fixed plant equipment and underground mining control systems. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise in production, development, and management of control systems, ensuring alignment with Operational and Technology requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering or control systems engineering, with experience in system integration, design, and implementation. They will also possess excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

The role will involve developing safety requirement specifications, defining and implementing safety lifecycle management strategies, and advising on systems safety issues. The candidate will also be responsible for developing system integration strategies, assembling and integrating systems, and providing design expertise to inform selection.

Additionally, the Principal Control Systems will be responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining sensing, measurement, and actuation devices, as well as developing and verifying Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to control, monitor, and collect data from operational processes.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of process control algorithms, process modelling, and testing, with the ability to maintain process control systems to enhance security and performance. They will also be responsible for installing, conducting verification/functional testing, and regular post-installation calibration of automated equipment to optimize safety and performance.

The Principal Control Systems will work closely with the BHP Group team to develop and maintain high-performance supervisory control systems (SCADA) to control fixed-plant systems, machinery, and processes at desired levels of performance.
