Position Overview
The City of Kamloops is seeking an experienced Archaeologist to join our team. As an Archaeologist, you will play a vital role in preserving our rich cultural heritage. You will work on diverse archaeological projects, utilizing advanced tools and methodologies, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts and local Indigenous communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with the Heritage Conservation Act across City of Kamloops departments.
- Liaise and collaborate with Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc, multidisciplinary consultants, and contractors throughout all phases of planning, construction, and post-construction activities.
- Identify, record, and evaluate archaeological site types expected in the BC Interior.
- Develop and implement effective strategies for preserving cultural heritage.
- Collaborate with Indigenous communities to ensure their cultural heritage is respected and preserved.
Requirements
- Eligibility for Professional Membership in the British Columbia Association of Professional Archaeologists.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in archaeology or anthropology with a specialization in archaeology.
- Minimum 7 years' experience in archaeological resource management, familiarity with Provincial Heritage Conservation Act, rules and regulations, and a working knowledge of related municipal, provincial, and federal laws, regulations, and practices.
- Prior experience liaising with Indigenous Communities, provincial regulatory bodies, municipal staff, and other levels of government.
- Experience on projects or initiatives that relate to infrastructure, archaeology, planning, and land use, and/or resource management.
