Archaeological Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Archaeological Specialist to join our team at the City of Kamloops. As an Archaeological Specialist, you will play a vital role in preserving our rich cultural heritage. You will work on diverse archaeological projects, utilizing advanced tools and methodologies, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts and local Indigenous communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with the Heritage Conservation Act across City of Kamloops departments.
• Liaise and collaborate with Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc, multidisciplinary consultants, and contractors throughout all phases of planning, construction, and post-construction activities.
• Identify, record, and evaluate the full range of archaeological site types expected in the BC Interior.

Requirements

• Eligibility for Professional Membership in the British Columbia Association of Professional Archaeologists.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in archaeology or anthropology with a specialization in archaeology.
• Minimum 7 years' experience in archaeological resource management, familiarity with Provincial Heritage Conservation Act, rules and regulations, and a working knowledge of related municipal, provincial, and federal laws, regulations, and practices.
• Prior experience liaising with Indigenous Communities, provincial regulatory bodies, municipal staff, and other levels of government, with strong preference for experience liaising with the local First Nations in the BC interior.
• Experience on projects or initiatives that relate to infrastructure, archaeology, planning, and land use, and/or resource management.
