Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Aquatic Team Member to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Vancouver. As a Swim Instructor and Lifeguard, you will be responsible for providing a safe and fun aquatics environment for our members.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Guard and teach swimming lessons in a positive and professional manner.
  • Develop and lead lesson plans for various programs and administer progressive evaluations for participants.
  • Build meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Perform routine pool maintenance, as required.
  • Perform general administrative duties and record keeping responsibilities.
  • Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property, by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained among all members and staff.
  • Promote philanthropy through the annual fundraiser campaign.
  • Strong work ethic and able to remain flexible.
  • Assist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practices.

Requirements:

  • Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 2 years).
  • CPR level C and & AED certificate (valid within 1 year).
  • National Lifeguard - Pool Option.
  • YSI Certification.
  • Experience as a Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor - preferred.
  • YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent – preferred.
  • Access to reliable transportation or a vehicle.
  • Advanced leadership courses are an asset.
  • Demonstrated high level of customer service skills.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date.
  • 3 professional references.
