Job Overview

Prairie Mountain Health is seeking a skilled Mental Health Service Specialist to join our team. As a Community Mental Health Worker, you will provide mental health services to residents of Prairie Mountain Health and work in both community and facility settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with clients and families to build trusting relationships and develop case formulations, intervention plans, and services.
  • Collect and review initial clinical and psychosocial information, gather collateral information, and conduct screenings and assessments.
  • Assess client strengths, skills, capacities, resource needs, and readiness in relation to primary goals and recovery plans.
  • Develop case formulations and assist clients to establish service requirements and plans.
  • Conduct risk evaluations for self-harm, violence, and deterioration of mental status and intervene in crisis situations.
  • Provide mental health counseling as indicated using recognized evidence-based models and methodologies with clients and families.
  • Perform intake roles as assigned and collaborate with clients to identify required services to meet fundamental human needs.
  • Respect and value cultural healing practices in collaboration with clients, family, and cultural practitioners.
  • Participate with related health providers and allied social service staff to assist with case management planning related to mental health issues.

Requirements:

  • A diverse and comprehensive knowledge base about trauma-informed psychiatric care and adopted mental health therapies.
  • Crisis management and suicide intervention skills.
  • Ability to apply therapeutic skills that promote client strengths and maximize independence, self-responsibility, and personal wellness.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other legislation protecting clients and the public.
