- Consultation and Collaboration: Consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health, and collaborate with specialists as needed.
- Prescription and Administration: Prescribe and administer medications and treatments, and provide patients with clear instructions on usage and dosage.
- Patient Education and Support: Advise patients on health care, provide counseling and support on health and lifestyle issues, and educate patients on disease prevention and management.
- Reporting and Record-Keeping: Report births, deaths, contagious diseases, and other health-related incidents to government authorities, and maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
- Education: Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or optometry from a recognized institution.
- Work Setting: Clinic or hospital setting, with a focus on primary patient care.
- Certifications and Licenses: Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC), licensure by provincial or territorial authorities, and Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE I and MCCQE II).
- Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced environment, work under pressure, attention to detail, and ability to work in a team.
- Personal Suitability: Accurate, client-focused, dependable, initiative, judgement, organized, and reliable.
- Experience: 2 years to less than 3 years of experience in a primary care setting, with a focus on family medicine.
