Job Title: Elementary Education Specialist
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Elementary Education Specialist to join our team at the First Nation School Board - Yukon. As an Elementary Education Specialist, you will be responsible for teaching and mentoring students in a primary classroom setting, with a focus on early learning pedagogy and Indigenous education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that meet the needs of diverse learners
- Build and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and community members
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement school-wide initiatives
- Stay up-to-date with best practices in early learning and Indigenous education
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent
- Experience teaching in a primary classroom (Grades K4-2)
- Understanding of and experience delivering early learning pedagogy
- Experience teaching in a multi-grade class
- Experience integrating self-regulation and social-emotional care practices in the classroom
- Experience working with Indigenous learners in a culturally diverse community
Desired Qualities:
- Eagerness to learn about and integrate Liard First Nation (Kaska Dene) culture & worldview, and the Dene zagi (Kaska language) in the classroom
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain an authentic relationship with the Liard First Nation government, Daylu Dena Council Educational Support Workers (ESW), community Elders, and families
- Keenness to live, work, and participate as an active member of the Watson Lake community
- Strong classroom management, planning and organizational skills, with the ability to motivate learners
- Solid understanding of a philosophy of inclusive education, excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills working with parents, staff members, coaches, the First Nation School Board and other partners
