Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Produce Department Supervisor to join our team at Whole Foods Market. As a key member of our produce team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the department, ensuring that our customers receive the highest level of service and quality products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and Delegate Tasks: Supervise and delegate tasks to produce team members, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Train and Develop Team Members: Work with the produce trainer to train team members in a manner that builds and sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover.
  • Assist with Training and Development: Assist in training of new team members, utilizing learning checklists and training materials.
  • Maintain a Clean and Organized Department: Keep all cases and shelves clean, well-stocked, and properly rotated.
  • Open and Close the Department: Open and close the department according to established procedures.
  • Ensure Breaks are Given: Ensure that all necessary breaks are given to team members.
  • Communicate with Team Leaders: Communicate team concerns to the team leader and associate team leader.
  • Set and Achieve Retail Execution Standards: Set and achieve the highest standards of retail execution.
  • Foster a Positive Team Environment: Foster and encourage a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale.
  • Provide Excellent Customer Service: Maintain awareness of customer flows and needs and direct team members as necessary to satisfy and delight customers; respond promptly to customer needs and questions.
  • Select, Train, and Develop Team Members: Select, train, develop, mentor, motivate, and counsel team members in a manner that sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover.
  • Provide Performance Evaluations: Provide timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations.
  • Communicate WFM Vision and Goals: Consistently communicate and model WFM vision and goals.
Requirements
  • Extensive Knowledge of Produce Team Procedures: Extensive knowledge of produce team procedures and policies.
  • Strong Organizational and Time Management Skills: Strong demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent Interpersonal and Customer Service Skills: Excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, and customer relationship skills.
  • Ability to Teach and Train: Capable of teaching others in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Product Knowledge: Product knowledge.
  • Regulatory and Safety Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures.
  • Mathematical Skills: Proficient mathematical skills for assessing financial performance, monitoring profitability, and managing inventory.
  • Decision-Making and Leadership Skills: Demonstrated decision-making ability, leadership skills, and ability to prioritize and delegate.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications.
Experience
  • 12+ Months Retail Experience: 12+ months retail experience.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • Lifting 50 Pounds: Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Standing/Walking 6-8 Hours: In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.
  • Hand Use: Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Motions: Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
  • Exposure to Cleaning Chemicals: Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Temperature: Exposure to temperatures: 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Wet and Cold Environment: Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.
  • Flexible Schedule: Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Use of Tools and Equipment: Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
