About the Position

The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums seeks a highly skilled and visionary Chief Executive Officer to lead the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo in its mission to conserve wildlife and inspire people to take action. As a renowned institution, the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo aspires to influence conservation globally, making it an exceptional opportunity for a leader to make a significant impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership to the Wilder Institute and the Calgary Zoo, championing the organization's work and mission.
  • Lead the transformation of the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo into a preeminent national and international conservation organization.
  • Strategically build and grow alignment across the organization on the vision and strategy of the Wilder Institute.
  • Leverage existing and create new opportunities to generate revenue while ensuring a strong overall financial position.
  • Ensure the Calgary Zoo remains vibrant and influential, continuing its trajectory of growth and operational excellence.
  • Proactively build and support a culture of inclusivity within the organization and as a key element in external initiatives.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership and management experience in a complex organization, preferably in the conservation sector.
  • Ability to inspire vision, unite internal and external stakeholders, and drive strategic change.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, communication skills, and public presence.
  • Experience in fundraising, marketing, and public relations, with a strong appetite for these areas.
  • Ability to build and sustain innovative partnerships and work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Political savvy and experience working with public officials at local, provincial/state, and national levels.
  • Strong team-building skills, with the ability to mentor, motivate, and empower others.
