At Hatch, we're seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Tailings Engineer to join our team in the Greater Toronto Area.

This exciting opportunity involves working with a highly motivated professional who is interested in supporting the development of our geotechnical practice and expanding our capability within the Canadian cluster.

Responsibilities:
  • Support engineers carrying out projects requiring geotechnical work, including site investigations, dam foundation design and construction, slope stabilization, drain design and construction.
  • Develop geotechnical investigation programs and support project engineers.
  • Participate in the preparation of geotechnical studies and engineering reports.
  • Assess slope stability under static and earthquake loadings.
  • Predict water table location in tailings storage facilities with different tailings technologies.
  • Support the project team in interrogating geotechnical models of tailings storage facilities.
  • Interrogate geotechnical issues such as settlements, liquefaction potential, slope stabilization, pore pressure generation, excavation and backfilling procedures, and related problems.
  • Supervise and monitor boreholes, in situ tests, piezocone soundings, reconnaissance trenches, and miscellaneous construction work such as tailings storage construction, subgrade compaction assessment, installation of geosynthetics, etc.
  • Conduct limit equilibrium analyses under various loading conditions.
  • Support the project team in deformation analyses under static and earthquake loadings.
  • Support intermediate and senior engineers in data analysis, report preparation, etc.
About You

We're looking for a qualified candidate with a Bachelor's or post-graduate degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological or Mining Engineering from an accredited University. A minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role is required. Construction/field experience is a bonus. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills are essential. Preferred bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese. Proficient in GeoStudio package, slide, and advanced use of Excel. Ability to travel internationally.
