Facilities Maintenance Assistant

The Victoria Conservatory of Music is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our facilities staff, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean and vibrant space for our community to gather, study, and enjoy.

The VCM is a creative hub where music, technology, and vision converge, fostering an environment where students can stretch their musical imaginations. Our beautiful heritage Alix Goolden Performance Hall is a premier concert space for the Greater Victoria region, and our renowned Music Therapy program offers a unique opportunity for individuals to experience the health and wellness benefits of music.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our building and property
  • Performing routine cleaning activities, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming floors, as well as sanitizing and supplying restroom facilities
  • Dusting furniture, walls, and equipment, and cleaning windows, mirrors, and partitions
  • Setting up rooms and equipment for classes and lessons
  • Facilitating room entry and control for faculty and students

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures
  • Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and objects
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion for periods of time
  • Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules
  • Communication skills
  • Building Service Worker Level 1/WHIMIS training/certificate considered an asset
  • A friendly and helpful personality who will interact professionally with students, concertgoers, faculty, and staff
