Facilities Maintenance Assistant

The Victoria Conservatory of Music is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Assistant to join its team. This role is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized environment for the community to gather, study, and enjoy.

The VCM is a creative hub where music, technology, and vision converge, fostering an environment where students can stretch their musical imaginations. Our beautiful heritage Alix Goolden Performance Hall is a premier concert space for the Greater Victoria region, and our Music Therapy program offers health and wellness benefits to the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining building and property in clean and orderly condition
  • Performing routine cleaning activities, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming floors, and preparing and mixing cleaning solutions
  • Setting up rooms and equipment for classes and lessons
  • Facilitating room entry and control of faculty and students

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures
  • Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and objects
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion for periods of time
  • Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules
  • Communication skills
  • Building Service Worker Level 1/WHIMIS training/certificate considered an asset
