The Opportunity

This role offers a unique chance to apply analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to contribute to the development of solutions for challenging client issues. As an Actuarial Co-op/Intern, you will work under the guidance of senior staff and collaborate with teams to deliver consulting services to a diverse range of defined benefit clients. You will have the opportunity to engage in continuous learning and development, with the goal of advancing to higher-level positions and pursuing actuarial accreditation through our competitive exam program and policy.

The Role

As an Actuarial Co-op/Intern, you will be responsible for completing actuarial valuations for multiemployer pension plans, public pension plans, and other actuarial projects under the supervision of experienced actuaries. Your projects may include valuation activities and special project work addressing unique and emerging retirement plan issues. You will have exposure to retiree health and defined contribution plan matters, and your key responsibilities will include researching and gathering information, reviewing and analyzing work products, providing input to solution development, creating and updating valuation programs, and assisting with report preparation and government filings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and gather information to support actuarial projects.
  • Review and analyze work products, including plan data and financial statements.
  • Provide input to the development of solutions for actuarial projects.
  • Create and update valuation programs and spreadsheet applications.
  • Assist with report preparation and government filings.
  • Work with senior actuary and consultant staff to support the effective presentation of work product to clients.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of two years (and ongoing) undergraduate education or an undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related discipline.
  • Completion of at least one actuarial exam is preferred, and the intent to attain actuarial accreditation is required.
  • 0-3 years of retirement plan actuarial experience within a consulting and/or insurance company environment.
  • Relevant computer and software skills, preferably including Excel.
  • Task management skills.
  • Detail-orientation, organization, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated communication (oral/written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively within a diverse group.
