Job Title: Emergency Medical Responder
Job Summary: Alberta Health Services is seeking an experienced Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) to join their Northern Alberta service area. The selected candidate will be responsible for assessing emergency scenes, transporting ill or injured patients, and ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles are properly stocked and equipped.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess emergency scenes and patients, and may transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities
- Operate ambulances or other modes of transportation, and assess emergency scenes and patients
- Provide simple treatments and complete required documentation, including patient care reports
- Assist with ensuring that ambulances or other EMS vehicles are properly stocked and equipped
Requirements:
- Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as an EMR
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP)
- Ability to obtain a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent
- Five-year driver abstract current within six months, with no more than six demerits
- Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, via the certificate provided by the Lifemark organization
Working Conditions: The working environment for an EMR is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. The selected candidate must be able to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations, with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids.

Northern Allowance: In addition to a competitive rate of pay, Alberta Health Services currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
Travel Expense Reimbursement: Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta.
