About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Student Services Counsellor to join our team at Aitchison College of Technology & Health Sciences Inc. As a key member of our student support services, you will play a vital role in providing guidance and support to our students, helping them navigate academic, personal, and social challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise teaching assistants and provide guidance on educational and career-related issues
  • Counsel students on personal and social matters, promoting their well-being and academic success
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies to ensure comprehensive support for our students
  • Coordinate the provision of counselling and information services to students, parents, and teachers
  • Administer and interpret standardized intelligence, aptitude, and interest tests to inform student development
  • Refer students to specialized services when required and facilitate access to resources and support
  • Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences, and workshops to stay updated on best practices and industry developments
  • Develop and implement guidance and counselling programs to promote student success and well-being
  • Recruit graduating students for employment opportunities and supervise peer counselling programs
  • Supervise field experience for graduate students in clinical and counselling areas and provide academic information to prospective students and their families
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at conferences, workshops, and symposia to share expertise and promote student success
Requirements
  • 2 years to less than 3 years of experience in a related field
  • Basic security clearance
  • Ability to work under pressure, with attention to detail, and a combination of sitting, standing, and walking
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a focus on client service and interpersonal relationships
  • Initiative, judgement, and organizational skills, with a commitment to reliability and efficiency
  • Participation in a government or community program or initiative that supports newcomers and/or refugees, youth employment, Veterans, Indigenous people, and visible minorities
