Municipal Prosecutor

The City of Barrie is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the role of Municipal Junior Prosecutor. As a key member of the Legislative and Court Services Department, you will play a vital role in upholding the law and ensuring justice is served in our community.

The Municipal Junior Prosecutor will be responsible for conducting administrative penalty screening hearings and minor prosecutions under provincial and federal statutes and regulations. You will work closely with the Prosecution Supervisor and Supervising Solicitor to ensure that all cases are handled efficiently and effectively.

• Conduct administrative penalty screening hearings and minor prosecutions
• Prepare disclosure and conduct legal research
• Prepare factums and arrange plea resolutions within the Early Resolution Program guidelines
• Process adjournment of first trial date applications
• Maintain a high level of ethical and moral aptitude
• Develop and maintain respectful working relationships with stakeholders, members of the law society, the judiciary, and unrepresented accused persons

• Two-year college diploma in Paralegal Studies or a related field
• Eligibility for and willingness to obtain Paralegal Licensing
• Two years of cumulative part-time experience or one year of full-time experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position
• Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying various statutes, relevant case law, and by-laws
• Demonstrated experience appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice
