**The Opportunity**

The Legislative and Court Services Department is comprised of three branches; Legislative Services (which includes Council Secretariat, Corporate Mail and Print Services, Vital Statistics and Access and Privacy Services), Court Services (which is responsible for the administration of justice within two court service areas in compliance with the Provincial Offences Act, the Memorandum of Understanding and Inter-municipal Service Agreements) and Enforcement Services which is responsible for administering and enforcing several municipal by-laws including but not limited to regulations related to the parking of vehicles, pet controls, property maintenance, business licensing, and sign placement).

Under the general guidance and direction of the Prosecution Supervisor, and supervision of the Supervising Solicitor, the Municipal Junior Prosecutor is responsible for conducting Administrative Penalty Screening Hearings and conducting minor prosecutions under Provincial and Federal statutes and regulations as well as by-laws under Part II of the Provincial Offences Act. This position must maintain a high level of ethicaland moral aptitude while developing and maintaining respectable working relationships with various stakeholders, members of the law society, the judiciary, unrepresented accused persons and contraveners. This position is also responsible for preparing disclosure, conducting legal research, preparing factums,arranging plea resolutions within the Early Resolution Program guidelines, as well as processing

**Education **(degree/diploma/certifications)
- Two (2) year College Diploma in Paralegal Studies or a related field
- Eligibility for and willingness to obtain Paralegal Licencing
- Position Equivalency Code: C

**Experience**
- Two (2) years of cumulative part-time experience or one (1) year of full-time experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position
- Demonstrated experience appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice

**Knowledge/Skill/Ability**
- Thorough knowledge of the Provincial Offences Act, Evidence Act of Ontario, Highway Traffic Act, Liquor Licence and Control Act, Trespass to Property Act and the Contraventions Act
- General knowledge of the Courts of Justice Act and related regulations
- General knowledge of the following principles and standards: Advocacy Theory
- Demonstrated ability to:

- maintain confidentiality
- deal appropriately with contentious situations while exercising discretion, good judgement and diplomacy
- perform legal research, investigate issues and resolve problems
- Intermediate skills include: Administrative; Customer Service; Multitasking; Organizational
- Advanced skills include: Active Listening; Analytical; Attention to Detail; Decision Making; Judgment; Negotiation; Professionalism; Research
- Basic computer literacy using the Integrated Court Offender Network (ICON) and the Evidence.ca platform
- Intermediate computer literacy using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.), as well as the Court Administration Management System (CAMS), and Zoom (as a co-host)
- Availability to accommodate deadlines or peak period workloads that may extend beyond designated
normal workday hours or normal hours per week

**Conditions of Employment**
- Licenced as a Qualified Paralegal with the Law Society of Ontario
- Eligibility for and willingness to obtain full membership in the Prosecutor's Association of Ontario within six (6) months of hire
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good
