We are seeking a skilled Cook I to join our team at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, B.C. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a rapidly growing organization with a talented team of health professionals.

About the Job

As a Cook I, you will be responsible for rethermalizing and/or cooking assigned food items for daily and inventory requirements by following established menus, recipes, quantity quotas, and food production sheets. You will test and adjust food items for palatability and ensure ready food inventory items are accurately packaged, labeled, and stored.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cook or rethermalize assigned food items by methods such as heating, reheating, boiling, frying, grilling, steaming, baking, whipping, and deep fat frying to meet daily and inventory requirements.
  • Evaluate final product for palatability, consistency, temperature, and adjust as necessary.
  • Plan daily cooking schedule to minimize time between completion of cooking and serving.
  • Prepare therapeutic diet items according to production needs.
  • Carve meat and poultry to ensure recipe yield and appropriate portion sizes.
  • Maintain established food rotations in storage to minimize spoilage and waste.
  • Ensure leftover food is properly labeled and stored.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Graduation from a recognized program in quantity cooking or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Food Safe Certificate.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $27.56 per hour. We offer a competitive compensation package, including four weeks of vacation to start, comprehensive health benefits, and a pension plan.
