Residential Support Worker

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Residential Support Worker to join our team. As a key member of our support staff, you will provide a safe and secure environment for our guests, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities- Provide crisis intervention and support to guests, liaising with emergency personnel as needed.
- Engage with and provide support to community meal guests, fostering a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
- Act as a receptionist for phone and front door inquiries, providing a warm and professional welcome to guests and visitors.
- Ensure building security while engaging with participants, community, and shelter guests.
- Host and supervise scheduled amenities room activities for residents, promoting a sense of community and social connection.
- May receive general donations, handle public complaints, and act as a primary community liaison, assisting outside users or groups renting or offering programs at our facility.
- Accurately record day-to-day happenings, maintain logbooks, and complete incident reports, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- In partnership with shelter staff, assist shelter guests in everyday situations, providing support and guidance as needed.
- In partnership with OP advisors, provide support to current and new OP participants, including room checks, tours, and POD visits.
- Calm demeanor with the ability to de-escalate crisis situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with guests and staff.
- Relationship-focused, with a proven record of displaying empathy and compassion.
- Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions, with a flexible and patient approach.
- Team-oriented, with the ability to take initiative and work collaboratively with others.
- Grade 12 education or equivalent, with a strong foundation in crisis intervention and support.
- Criminal Record Check, CPR, First Aid, and Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset.
