We are seeking an experienced Carpentry Trades Instructor to join our team at NAIT in Alberta. As a Contract Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students in First Nation communities throughout the province.

About the Role

This is a contract position that requires strong instructional skills, excellent classroom management, and the ability to work independently. The successful candidate will have a journeyperson Carpenter certification with strong construction theory and concepts knowledge, as well as prior instructional experience.

The ideal candidate will also possess strong verbal and written communication skills, basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, and strong interpersonal and collaborative skills. A high level of independence is required for this role.

Job Description

As a Carpentry Trades Instructor, you will be responsible for:

  • Utilizing appropriate tools and equipment to instruct students and provide practical hands-on learning;
  • Maintaining professional ethical relationships with students and colleagues, responding professionally to student issues and concerns;
  • Maintaining student attendance and other documentation as required;
  • Having a degree of flexibility and fluidity that matches the needs of our Indigenous students.
Program/Course Goals

The program/course goals include providing participants with:

  • Skills and knowledge to effectively pass the AIT Entrance Exam for Carpentry;
  • Reviewing math & English competencies and upgrading;
  • Identifying the purpose, format, and grade needed to pass the Carpentry Trades Entrance Exam;
  • Identifying where to find information about the competencies assessed by the Carpentry Trades Entrance Exam;
  • Identifying exam expectations, materials supplied, and what to bring when taking the Carpentry Trades Entrance Exam;
  • Identifying and reviewing mathematics competencies and answering example questions that support personal competency improvement.
