Ophthalmic Technician

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Kensington Health Centre. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in assisting ophthalmologists in clinics, performing diagnostic tests, and providing exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist ophthalmologists in clinics by accurately testing patients' vision, applying eye drops, and performing diagnostic tests.
- Perform visual field testing, OCT, photography, ultrasound, topography, and other diagnostic procedures.
- Provide instructions to patients on eye care and ensure accurate medical records management.
- Establish and maintain good relations with patients, families, and the Kensington Health community.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families to ensure their involvement and participation in decision-making.
- Use scientific knowledge to identify issues and manage conflicts.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Good eye for detail and technical skills.
- Ability to manage patient expectations and concerns.
- Team-oriented and collaborative, with a willingness to learn and coach others.
- Ability to interpret ambiguous situations and put them into a structured framework.
- Ability to deal with multiple tasks, tight timelines, and peak busy periods.
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Minimum three years of experience in an ophthalmology setting.
- Experience with ophthalmology diagnostic tools, such as biometry, IOL Master, refraction, and related exam room testing.
- Experience working with electronic patient scheduling software and/or electronic medical records (EMR).
- In-depth knowledge of ophthalmic equipment, procedures, and techniques.
- Medical background helpful.
- Previous experience working in a fast-paced environment.
Required Professional Designation/Certificate:
- Sc. or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT).
