About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Barista to join our team at Fairmont Chateau Laurier in Ottawa. As a Barista, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service and creating a welcoming atmosphere for our guests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consistently offer professional, friendly, and engaging service to our guests.
  • Be active in the boutique, providing recommendations to guests and handling end-to-end customer orders.
  • Sell and prepare coffee drinks and beverages by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques.
  • Answer customers' questions, present, and explain the various beverage offerings.
  • Maintain inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply, stocking coffee brewing equipment, and maintaining supplies, baked goods, and boutique items.
  • Keep equipment operating by following instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to health and safety guidelines.
  • Improve quality results by studying, evaluating, and/or proposing redesigned processes and implementing changes.
  • Maintain and improve the appearance of the boutique and coffee bar.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading coffee, retail trade, and food service publications.
  • Enhance coffee shop reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Work effectively under pressure during busy shifts.

Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal and English communication skills.
  • French will be an asset.
  • Must possess a professional presentation.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly responsible and reliable.
  • Retail and food and beverage experience will be considered an asset.
  • High school diploma/equivalent required.

Physical Aspects of the Position:

  • Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting.
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramp.
