Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Paint Artist to join our team at Industrial Light & Magic. As a key member of our Paint team, you will be responsible for restoring background plates and crafting digital articulate mattes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a keen eye for color and grain structures, with the ability to match saturation, hues, and black points from multiple sources to create a cohesive final montage.
  • Break down complex shots into individual components with minimal supervision.
  • Effectively assimilate feedback from supervisors and implement changes as needed.
  • Research and provide references for continuity with like shots, proactively communicating this information to the team.
  • Identify and address paint artifacts, sharpness, and color issues.
  • Handle complex shots with heavy motion blur, multiple layers, and other challenging elements.
  • Utilize a combination of techniques for tricky wire removals and clean plates.
  • Produce high-quality "paint on comp" work.
  • Work with color correction and grain pipeline in Nuke.
  • Export track points between multiple toolsets.
  • Understand and work with the stereo compositing pipeline.
  • Develop excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Take ownership of shots, offering solutions and finding ways to improve production efficiency.
  • Collaborate across departments, providing updates on shot progress and working with other artists to achieve shared goals.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Drawing, or Animation, or equivalent artistic background and education.
  • 3+ years of production experience in computer graphics, animation, or video.
  • Professional experience with Silhouette and Nuke.
  • Ability to write Nuke gizmos and/or plugins (a plus).
  • Python and/or C++ experience (a plus).
  • Computer proficiency, including UNIX operating system, and ability to learn software and adapt scripts.
  • Understanding of how work fits into the pipeline and its effect on upstream and downstream departments.
  • Willingness to learn new tools, proven track record of being meticulous, and problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptability and willingness to work under tight deadlines and efficiently within a production environment.

Compensation:

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$64,700 to C$82,800 per year, based on a 40-hour work week. The actual base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

A full range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits may be offered, dependent on the level and position offered.
