Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Paint Artist to join our team at Industrial Light & Magic. As a key member of our Paint team, you will be responsible for restoring background plates and crafting digital articulate mattes.

About the Role:

  • Develop a strong eye for color and grain structures, with the ability to match saturation, hues, and black points from multiple sources to build a cohesive final montage.
  • Break down shots into individual components with minimal supervision, demonstrating a keen attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Effectively assimilate feedback from supervisors, using it to improve your work and meet the high standards of our team.
  • Research and provide references for continuity with like shots, proactively communicating this information to the team.
  • Identify and address paint artifacts, sharpness, and color issues, ensuring high-quality results.
  • Handle complex shots with heavy motion blur, multiple layers, and other challenging elements.
  • Utilize a combination of techniques for tricky wire removals and clean plates, demonstrating a high level of skill and expertise.
  • Perform "paint on comp" work to a high level of quality, showcasing your ability to work efficiently and effectively.
  • Develop a working knowledge of color correction and grain pipeline in Nuke, as well as layout and DM cameras.
  • Export track points between multiple toolsets, ensuring seamless collaboration and communication.
  • Understand and work within the stereo compositing pipeline, demonstrating a strong grasp of complex visual effects techniques.
  • Develop excellent troubleshooting skills, taking ownership of shot issues and finding creative solutions.
  • Actively collaborate with other departments, providing updates and progress reports to ensure smooth production.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Drawing, or Animation, or equivalent artistic background and education.
  • 3+ years of production experience in computer graphics, animation, or video.
  • Professional experience with Silhouette and Nuke, with a strong understanding of their capabilities and limitations.
  • Ability to write Nuke gizmos and/or plugins, as well as proficiency in Python and/or C++.
  • Computer proficiency, including UNIX operating system, with the ability to learn software and adapt scripts.
  • Strong understanding of how your work fits into the pipeline and its effect on upstream and downstream departments.
  • Willingness to learn new tools, a proven track record of being meticulous, and problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptability and willingness to work under tight deadlines and efficiently within a production environment.

Compensation:

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$64,700 to C$82,800 per year, based on a 40-hour work week. The actual base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
