Job Title: Truck Driver/Loader Operator

The Municipality of North Cowichan is seeking a skilled Truck Driver/Loader Operator to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for operating our municipal trucks, including loading and hauling various materials, towing a commercial trailer, spreading gravel and asphalt, and operating tanker/distributor or sweeper trucks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate municipal trucks, including loading and hauling various materials, towing a commercial trailer, spreading gravel and asphalt, and operating tanker/distributor or sweeper trucks.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections, maintain written records, and follow prescribed routes.
  • Ability to efficiently operate both truck and commercial trailer combinations of over 38,000 KG GVW.
  • Ability to spread gravel and asphalt.
  • Ability to operate loaders.
Requirements:
  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 1 B.C. Driver's License with air endorsement; a satisfactory current driver's abstract will be required.
  • One (1) year experience operating commercial trucks at a Class 3 with air endorsement level or higher.
  • Ability to operate tandem and single axle trucks equipped with sanders and plows under adverse weather conditions; shifts and weekends will be required.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and drive for long periods of time.
