Job Title: Senior Vice President, Ceded Reinsurance

Trisura Group is a leading international specialty insurance and reinsurance group with a presence in the Surety, Risk Solutions, Corporate Insurance, and Reinsurance niche segments of the market. Our insurance businesses include a Canadian specialty insurance company, an international reinsurance company in Barbados, and a US excess and surplus lines specialty insurance company.

In response to our rapid growth, strengthening our Group Risk function is key to our continued success. We are seeking a qualified individual to join our dynamic forward-thinking team in this newly created role.

Job Summary:

The Senior Vice President, Ceded Reinsurance is a strategic role within Trisura, responsible for developing and implementing a North American reinsurance strategy for the operating entities within Trisura. This includes administrating all reinsurance treaties through their lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Oversight: Identify and evaluate reinsurance opportunities, structures, and economics and provide input to the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Underwriting Officer, Chief Risk Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Trisura executive management.
  • Treaty Negotiation & Placement: Instrumental in preparing and presenting reinsurance submissions. Collaborate with underwriting, claims, and actuarial to gather pertinent data. Active participant in negotiating and placing reinsurance treaties to achieve best terms and conditions available in the market.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with reinsurance partners, brokers, and internal stakeholders. Participate in reinsurance market meetings, conventions, and seminars.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with Trisura pricing and reserving actuaries to assess portfolio risk, optimize reinsurance structure and economics, and monitor performance. Collaborate with underwriting management to facilitate reinsurance audits and ensure reinsurance coverage aligns with underwriting objectives.
  • Analytical Oversight: Data-driven decision-making is at the heart of the role, requiring comprehensive analysis of portfolio risks, reinsurance market trends, and treaty performance.
Requirements:
  • Minimum +10 years' experience in the insurance industry.
  • Prior experience in ceded reinsurance roles or similar is preferred.
  • Understanding of reinsurance markets, treaty structures, pricing, and contracts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines effectively.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Solid experience building and managing a team of professionals.
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field.
  • Advanced degrees and industry designations (e.g., CPCU, ARe) are a plus.
