We are seeking a highly skilled Data Protection Specialist to join our team at Maarut Inc. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for leading and conducting privacy impact assessments, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations, and providing expert guidance on data protection best practices.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and conduct privacy impact assessments for new technologies, information systems, and proposed programs or policies to ensure compliance with legal and policy requirements.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to address potential risks and concerns related to data protection.
- Collaborate with business and technology teams to ensure that data protection requirements are integrated into project governance and approval processes.
- Provide expert guidance and training on data protection best practices, including interpretation and communication of principles and compliance requirements.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and issues in data protection, and apply this knowledge to inform recommendations and strategies.
- Excellent knowledge of data protection concepts, trends, and issues, including an understanding of their impact on business processes.
- Knowledge of, and experience in researching and applying relevant data protection laws, regulations, and jurisprudence.
- Experience in conducting privacy impact assessments in a public sector context.
- Knowledge of, and experience with data protection enhancing best practices.
- Familiarity with Ontario's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and its municipal equivalent the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), their respective regulations and related jurisprudence.
- Familiarity with federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and US PATRIOT Act.
- Strong analytical skills to understand the current and future data protection implications of policies, decisions, and business initiatives.
- Ability to lead, manage, or support the development of a PIA either independently or as part of a team by directing and gathering input from specific individuals within the organization.
- Excellent communication skills with technical and business audiences, including non-data protection experts.
- Professional certification from a related discipline such as IT security, architecture.
- Experience providing education and training related to data protection.
- Knowledge of, and experience with the policies and procedures of the Ontario government.
