Financial Planning and Analysis Supervisor

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Planning and Analysis Supervisor to join our team at St. Mary's General Hospital. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for providing operational and strategic direction, maintaining high-end quality financial and clinical reporting, and advising on all areas of our financial and business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage employee resources, ensuring appropriate capacities, minimized risk exposure, quality of service delivery, and cost efficiencies.
- Assess staff performance to identify competency gaps and development opportunities.
- Hire, promote, discipline, and terminate staff as required.
- Manage employee relations issues, promoting a teamwork environment where staff can interact productively and efficiently.
- Develop, implement, and communicate performance measures; conduct regular performance appraisals of direct reports and provide ongoing coaching and feedback for direct and indirect reports.
- Monitor and address employee absenteeism as per hospital attendance program.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels within approved operating budget, minimizing overtime.
- Identify potential opportunities for staff development through recognition of individual concerns, motives, strengths, and limitations.
- Direct and oversee all general functional areas of operation in Financial Planning effectively and efficiently.
- Adhere to the development and continuation of a safe and effective work environment by ensuring staff are equipped with all required Personal Protection Equipment, properly trained according to unit standards, abide by relevant legislation, policies, and procedures, and perform work duties in accordance with SMGH's Code of Conduct.
Leadership and Program Support:
- Provide support for the continued development of a best-in-class customer service model, working in partnership with a broad group of managers and senior leaders.
- Ensure operating budgets are managed.
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and formal training to internal stakeholders on development, implementation, and use of continuous quality improvement and project management methodologies.
- Support quality improvement function as part of the team to develop, implement, and review action plans.
Corporate Management:
- Develop and manage strategic initiatives in alignment with St. Mary's General Hospital strategic plan.
- Continuously assess the environment for new trends and provide subject matter expert knowledge and advice to SMGH.
- Develop and manage a robust rolling forecast program.
- Research, analyze, and suggest policy related to hospital financial issues.
- Contribute financial insight and analysis to strategic policy development and analysis on hospital funding and financial sustainability.
- Accountable for managing the recommendation, development, and implementation of rolling forecasts for forecasting, budget planning, expenditure control, case costing, and clinical performance.
- Design, develop, and maintain appropriate audit trails to meet requirements of varied and unrelated groups, MIS, CIHI requirements, and all government regulations.
- Focus on financial performance and how that translates into system performance.
- Provide analysis and advice on issues affecting the financial health of SMGH, such as LHIN operating and capital funding policies and programs and changes to financial accounting and reporting.
Communications and Collaborations:
- Establish and maintain strategic alliances with members of the healthcare industry, government agencies, regulatory boards, SMGH managers, and other stakeholders.
- Communicate across the organization on all financial matters to advise on financial issues and collect input/feedback from hospitals.
- Work closely with partners to strengthen accountability by driving and accelerating performance improvements and work with the Director and CFO in the development and submission of the annual Accountability Agreement.
- Adapt communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with patients and their families, coworkers, physicians, volunteers, and others within our healthcare community.
- Demonstrate values and a commitment to foster a healthy, supportive work environment dedicated to delivering a high-quality care experience through compassion, innovation, and respect.
- Effectively apply organizational and time management skills to prioritize workload, problem solve, and adapt to frequent interruptions and change.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree Program.
- Financial Accounting Designation Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) is a Must.
- Minimum three to five years of practical related experience.
- Knowledgeable in the Hospital Funding Formula.
- Experience contributing to strategic development on financial improvement and sustainability.
- Proven ability to focus on technical details and methodologies also required.
- Strong, well-developed business management skills, including strategic planning, budgeting, resource allocation, analytics, and decision support.
- Exceptional team building, analytical, writing, and presentation skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to lead people, accomplish identified as well as new goals and objectives to achieve desired outcomes.
- Advanced Excel/Spreadsheet skills.
- Ability to successfully network across the organization and externally with partners such as the Ontario Health West (OHW) and other healthcare sectors, including the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
- Successfully able to perform their function in accordance with prescribed standards that focus on the priority of People Safety and the delivery of the highest standard of Quality Care.
- Demonstrate the physical and mental capabilities necessary for proper and efficient performance of the essential duties of the position.
