Job Title: Construction Inspector

Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking a skilled Construction Inspector to join our team in the Public Works department.

Job Summary:

The Construction Inspector will be responsible for coordinating and directing contract administration and inspection services operations within their designated area of Construction Services. This includes ensuring projects are implemented and completed on schedule, within budget, and meet quality control objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and participate in daily quality and quantity control inspection operations of municipal services construction works.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to summer students and establish a project team approach to implementing and managing assigned capital projects.
  • Assist with scoping works to be tendered and review estimated quantities of pay items for tendering.
  • Act as a resource person and liaison with relevant HRM staff and provide information to the general public on construction issues.
  • Prepare and recommend capital works progress claims for approval.
  • Ensure timely follow-up on deficiencies associated with completed capital works.
  • Prepare construction and maintenance deficiency inspection lists and follow up to ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Monitor site safety and prepare as-built information for as-built drawings.
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 5 years of field construction experience in asphalt, concrete, roadways, and other municipal infrastructure.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a municipal engineering environment.
  • Valid NS driver's license and willingness to use a vehicle during working hours.

Work Status:

Permanent, full-time

Hours of Work:

Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Overtime may be required.

Salary:

NSGEU Level 8 $40.40 per hour as per NSGEU Local 222 Collective Agreement
