Labour Relations Specialist Role at Air Canada

As a Labour Relations Specialist at Air Canada, you will provide expert advice and guidance to management and personnel on all aspects of labour relations, including interpretation of the Collective Agreement, the Canada Labour Code, and Health and Safety issues. Your role will involve assisting the Director, Labour Relations, in negotiations, developing and preparing the Company Bargaining Agendas, and providing training on labour relations matters. You will also represent the Company at step 3 grievance and arbitration hearings, and assist in negotiating major collective agreements.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Director, Labour Relations, in negotiations, develop, research and prepare the Company Bargaining Agendas in consultation with line management.
  • Provide assistance to line management in grievance handling and administration of collective agreements and all other corporate policies applicable to bargaining unit employees.
  • Liaise with union representatives to promote a co-operative and effective labour relations climate.
  • Prepare and conduct training on assorted labour relations matters.
  • Research grievance / arbitration and bargaining issues.
  • Represent the Company at step 3 grievance and arbitration hearings.
  • Assist in negotiating major collective agreements.

Key Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field of study or equivalent work experience and knowledge.
  • Relevant experience in the discipline.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills in English.
  • Strong negotiating abilities, good judgment and a good sense of initiative.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with minimum supervision; aptitude to cope with heavy workload.
