Job Title: Regional Infection Prevention Specialist

Job Summary:

The Regional Infection Prevention Specialist will play a critical role in leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of infection prevention and control programs across multiple long-term care homes in the Southwest Region. This individual will serve as a resident safety expert, responsible for promoting the goals of the IPAC program and ensuring the highest standards of infection prevention and control are maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement IPAC programs and policies to prevent and control infections in long-term care homes
  • Conduct investigations into clusters and outbreaks of infections, analyzing data to identify causes and developing interventions to prevent future occurrences
  • Provide education and training to staff on infection prevention and control principles and best practices
  • Collaborate with local public health units to ensure compliance with infection control guidelines and regulations
  • Monitor and analyze trends in epidemiologic activity, advising on prevention and control strategies
  • Lead the roll-out of vaccination campaigns and ensure homes are in compliance with infection control guidelines
  • Develop and implement correction plans to address IPAC breaches and ensure safe working practices
  • Provide expert guidance on facility design, maintenance, and construction projects to promote resident safety

Requirements:

  • RN/RPN degree or diploma and current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario as an RN or RPN, or Bachelor degree in other healthcare-related field
  • Completion of an approved IPAC Canada infection control course and certification in Infection Control (CIC) or LTC-CIP
  • Previous experience in long-term care and knowledge of applicable directives
  • Strong understanding of relevant LTC and ministry of health legislations
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
