Job Summary

The University of Waterloo is seeking a skilled Plumber Specialist to join our facilities team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for the installation, replacement, and repair of hot and cold water systems, HVAC, and other mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned work within assigned facilities, including installation and repair of hot and cold water systems, steam systems, condensate systems, and related equipment and controls.
  • Install, maintain, or repair hot water tanks, steam coils, chilled water coils, and lines, valves, water temperature and pressure regulators, and backflow preventors.
  • Maintain and repair the entire drain and sewage systems and fire hydrants.
  • Maintain and repair bottle washers, incinerators, autoclaves, steam cookers, acid waste and dilution tanks, as well as other equipment.
  • Provide trade and job instruction as well as work direction to other classifications. May coordinate work among other classifications.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
  • Valid Provincial Trade Certification as a Plumber.
  • Valid Cross Connection / Backflow Device testing license.
  • Minimum five (5) years recent experience as a certified plumber.
  • Experience testing backflow devices.
  • Work experience within major institutional sector(s), such as education, post-secondary education, medical/hospital or related construction industry, may be preferred.
  • Must be customer and team oriented, as well as self-motivated and able to work successfully with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated and in-depth understanding of all related tools and shop equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of the trade.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings, make accurate material takeoffs, and write summary reports of condition assessment surveys when necessary.
  • Possesses a valid Ontario class 'G' driver's license or equivalent.
