The Mate is responsible for maintaining the appearance of the vessel, directing daily activities of the crew, and upholding strict safety standards for guests and crew. This role requires a professional and friendly demeanor, with a focus on providing amazing hospitality to guests and coworkers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assign deck crew tasks and provide direction
  • Stand bridge watch and assist in navigating and maneuvering the vessel
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the vessel
  • Load or unload materials from vessels
  • Handle lines to moor vessels to pier when necessary
  • Stand watch to look for obstructions in a ship's path or to locate navigational aids
  • Provide assistance to the Engineer to operate and maintain ship equipment

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Must obtain valid Chief Mate (limited for a vessel of 60 gross tonnage) or more upon hire
  • At least one (1) to three (3) years' maritime experience
  • Current Marine Basic First Aid
  • Current Transport Canada approved marine medical certification
  • Must hold a valid passport to enter the United States
  • Ability to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information
  • Energetic and enthusiastic personality essential
