Job Summary

The Regional Industrial Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting and leading initiatives related to Sun Gro's growth, modernization, standardization, and improvement plans across all North American plants and bogs. This position requires a strong change leader who can effectively collaborate with employees at various levels and education backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Project Management: Define, manage, and execute improvement projects and initiatives within the region of responsibility.
  2. Capital Project Evaluation and Implementation: Lead the evaluation, implementation, and commissioning of capital projects in conjunction with plant management teams.
  3. Financial Management: Manage financial spend of capital projects to ensure timely completion within budget and at the required quality level.
  4. Drafting and Design: Create efficient layouts for equipment, materials, and workspace using drafting tools and computer-aided design software.
  5. Review and Analysis: Review budgets, production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to gain insights into manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities.
  6. CMMS Program Adoption: Support the implementation and adoption of a standardized CMMS program across all Sun Gro sites, including data development and analysis.
  7. Continuous Improvement: Apply continuous improvement methodologies and lean manufacturing toolsets within the Sun Gro Operations Model for Excellence (SOME).
  8. Statistical Methods: Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staff requirements, and production standards.
  9. Frequent Travel: Frequently travel to and collaborate with bog- and plant personnel to identify opportunities for improvements, increase capacity, and reduce costs.
  10. Communication and Collaboration: Communicate with vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status.
  11. Production Standards: Develop production and design standards with operators and management to promote efficient staff and facility utilization.
  12. Labor Utilization Standards: Develop manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to enhance staff and facility efficiency.
  13. Process Optimization: Recommend and implement methods for improving the utilization of personnel, material, and utilities through process, system, or equipment changes or upgrades.
  14. Sequence of Operations: Plan and establish the sequence of operations from peat harvesting through processing and shipping to promote efficient asset utilization and achieve optimal flow.
Requirements
  1. A degree in an applicable field, such as Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, is preferred.
  2. PMP designation is preferred.
  3. At least 7 years' experience working in a fast-paced, high-mix manufacturing environment.
  4. Experience managing projects over $1M per asset.
  5. A hands-on approach to completing projects.
  6. The ability to use 2D and 3D modeling software, such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  7. Automation experience with PLCs and electrical systems is an asset.
  8. A strong change manager with proven experience gaining buy-in from employees on process changes.
  9. Good, concise, and adaptable communication skills are paramount.
  10. The ability to relate process improvement and change to positive financial business impact.
  11. A proven collaborator able to work closely with a cross-functional team to solve complex problems with robust solutions.
  12. Detail-oriented with the ability to communicate complex issues and solutions via simple, understandable means.
  13. Frequent travel up to 75% within the region.
  14. Expected to be on-site for project installation and commissioning.
  15. Periodically may be required to travel to other regions of Canada and the US to support other projects.
  16. May be required to lift up to 25Kg.
  17. A full, clean driver's license is required.
