The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Counsel to join our Legal Services team. As a Counsel, you will play a critical role in providing legal services to the CNSC in areas of law such as nuclear regulation, compliance and enforcement, tribunal decision-making, indigenous reconciliation, technology, labour relations, accessibility, and information and privacy law.
Key Responsibilities- Conducting legal research and drafting legal opinions or memoranda
- Providing legal advice on complex legal issues
- Identifying and analyzing legal risks and proposing practical risk mitigation strategies
- Communicating legal advice and legal risk effectively, both orally and in writing
- Working effectively under pressure with changing priorities within tight time constraints
- Law degree from a recognized university (LLB, JD, LLL, BCL)
- Member in good standing in the bar of one of the provinces or territories of Canada or the Order of notaries of Quebec
- English essential, Bilingual imperative with proficiency at BBB level
- 5-10 years of combined relevant legal practice
- Experience working within an administrative tribunal or regulatory setting
- Litigation experience or experience in the preparation of court documents, affidavits, process, etc.
- Experience working in an organization with a science-based or technical mandate
