Faculty Position: Adult Basic Education Instructor

Vancouver Island University is seeking a qualified instructor to join our Faculty of Academic & Career Prep. As a member of our team, you will play a critical role in preparing students for success in post-secondary programs, workplaces, and communities.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to teach a variety of subjects, including literacy, math, science, and English. You will be responsible for instructing courses, preparing course materials, and providing individual and group instruction. You will also be expected to design and implement student evaluation, grading, and record-keeping systems.

Responsibilities
  • Instruct courses and prepare course materials
  • Provide individual and group instruction, as well as student support
  • Design and implement student evaluation, grading, and record-keeping systems
  • Liaise with FACP Advisors and Pathways Coordinator
  • Participate as an active member of the instructional faculty
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a Master's degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution and relevant teaching experience. You must also have a minimum of 24 credits in the identified subject area and recent experience teaching stated subjects and levels.

You will also need to demonstrate the ability to prepare and deliver courses that incorporate a wide range of teaching strategies and address the needs of adult learners with various learning styles and abilities. Additionally, you will need to have experience teaching student success skills, such as active listening, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Teacher training or certification is preferred, as is familiarity with VIU's courses and programs. You will also need to be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds of adult upgrading student populations.
