Job Summary

Vancouver Island University is seeking a qualified Adult Basic Education Instructor to join our team. As an Adult Basic Education Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching and mentoring adult learners in a variety of subjects, including literacy, math, and science.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans and instructional materials to meet the needs of adult learners.
  • Provide individual and group instruction, as well as student support and guidance.
  • Design and implement student evaluation, grading, and record-keeping systems.
  • Liaise with faculty advisors and pathways coordinators to ensure student success.
  • Participate as an active member of the instructional faculty and contribute to the development of curriculum and instructional materials.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Relevant teaching experience, with a minimum of 24 credits in the identified subject area.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver courses that incorporate a wide range of teaching strategies and address the needs of adult learners.
  • Experience teaching a variety of student success skills, including active listening, critical thinking, personal management skills, study skills, test-taking skills, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated digital competencies and proven experience teaching with face-to-face, remote, and/or online delivery models.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to life-long learning.
  • Knowledge of institutional resources and familiarity with VIU's courses and programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teacher training or certification.
