Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation Engineer to support our office in Burlington and Sarnia, ON.

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and modifying client drawings, preparing equipment specifications, and preparing construction scopes of work.

Responsibilities

  1. Create/modify client drawings including instrument loop drawings, wiring diagrams, conduit & cable schedules, panel layouts, and bill of materials.
  2. Prepare equipment specifications including online/offline instrument specifications, Motor/VFD specifications, and control panel specifications.
  3. Prepare construction Scopes of Work, purchasing documents, bid reviews, and selection.
  4. Provide technical support to construction contractors.
  5. Create and maintain project documentation including cost estimates, schedules, instrument indices, drawing and procurement Control Documents.
  6. Prepare checkout documentation and procedures; understand the impacts of Control Systems on client processes.
  7. Prepare final project documentation including As-built drawings, vendor documentation, and control system configuration documentation.
  8. Be responsible and accountable for own safety and the safety of others involved in or affected by activities.
  9. Prepare and/or supervise engineering reports, studies, calculations, and checks drawings as required.
  10. Provide mentorship to junior engineers and designers.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation & Control Engineering (or related discipline).
  2. Registered Professional Engineer License with Ontario is required.
  3. A minimum of 5-7 years' related working and site experience is required.
  4. Broad technical and HSE skills with a solid working knowledge of Construction and Commissioning operations.
  5. Must have experience coordinating electrical and instrumentation procurement vendor inspections and QA/QC reporting activities.
  6. Experience managing electrical equipment for hazardous area engineering, construction, and pre-commissioning is a must.
  7. Significant experience in sizing, selection, and specification of field instrumentation.
  8. Knowledge of all phases of a multi-discipline construction operation relating to field activities.
  9. Extensive experience with hardware requirements of PLC, SCADA, and DCS control systems for system design and implementation.
  10. Solid business development skills to interact effectively with customers to collect site information for existing jobs and conduct scope definition visits, evaluations, and discussions to secure new work.
  11. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
