About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Professional to join our team at qathet General Hospital in Powell River, BC. As a key member of our Psychiatry In-Patient team, you will be responsible for providing individualized direct nursing care, discharge planning, and case coordination services to clients with severe and persistent mental illness, concurrent disorders, and/or dementia.
Responsibilities:
- Provide physical and psychosocial rehabilitation assessments to identify client needs and develop personalized treatment plans.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive care and promote client-centered rehabilitation.
- Administer prescribed medications, monitor client response, and provide education on activities of daily living, medication use, and lifestyle integration.
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships based on respect, empathy, and understanding.
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- A current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
- Completion of a minimum 6-week clinical practicum/preceptorship in a mental health setting, supplemented by coursework in mental health or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of concurrent disorders, substance use, and abuse, harm reduction strategies, including assessment and intervention.
- Demonstrated ability to provide nursing assessments, interventions, and documentation in accordance with organizational and unit standards.
