Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Architecture

The Cloud Transformation Architect is responsible for creating a comprehensive strategy, setting principles and standards, planning, and working with delivery teams to transform the corporation from a data centre/on-premise based organization to a cloud-centric/cloud-first organization.

This involves establishing the technology strategy and roadmap that enables a portfolio to support current and future business capabilities on a cloud platform.

The Cloud Transformation Architect works closely with business owners and Lean Portfolio Management to manage the enterprise portfolio, business epics, and technology enablers, linking how change opportunities bring the corporation closer to its five-year ambition.

Key Responsibilities
  • Makes decisions that have a major impact on the Corporation's ability to attain its strategic directions while maintaining a rationalized portfolio that achieves synergy across the enterprise.
  • Provides direction to individual client work units on what are acceptable tactical objectives and plans how to move from tactical to the strategic architectural objectives.
  • Works closely with leaders of the corporation to modernize and optimize lines of business and address and respond to market disruptors.
  • Is responsible for monitoring and adopting technology innovations into the corporation's technical footprint.
  • Is a trusted advisor to CIO/CTO/EA level contacts and their teams as they look to move their business to a cloud architecture.
Qualifications
  • B.S. Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in information technology covering a wide range of technologies and disciplines, including:
    • Five as an architect.
    • Three as a lead architect.
  • Must have experience successfully migrating a corporation from a data centre/on-premise deployment model to the cloud and enabling a cloud-first/cloud-centric deployment model.
Includes
  • Creation of strategy, roadmaps, vision statements, business cases, solution contexts, as well as setting principles and standards to create a secure, stable, fault-tolerant, cost-effective cloud computing environment.
  • Participated in and led migration efforts as part of delivery programs that migrated compute power from on-premise to the cloud.
  • Experience with the Azure cloud platform is a must.
  • Experience with Google and Amazon cloud platforms is an asset.
  • Experience with Kubernetes is an asset.
  • Good understanding of the architectural principles of cloud-based platforms, including SaaS, PaaS, multitenancy, multi-tiered infrastructure, etc.
  • Good understanding of all cloud offerings in the market and ability to discuss cloud architectures.
  • Good understanding of enterprise application integration, including SOA, ESB, and ETL.
  • Good understanding of process orchestration, BPM, CEP, MDM, BI/BA, etc.
  • Good understanding of the security processes, standards & issues involved in multi-tier cloud or hybrid applications.
  • Familiar with principles of network, application, and information security.
  • Good understanding of enterprise application integration technologies as well as common ECA topics such as persona-based journeys, process orchestration, master data management, analytics, and insights, artificial intelligence, etc.
  • Experience of architectural frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman, etc.
  • SAFe Architect Certification is an asset.
