Speech and Language Therapist Assistant

About the Role

The Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) provides speech, language and swallowing services to acute, rehab or complex care patients under the supervision and guidance of the Speech-Language Pathologist, both in a one-on-one and group setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Treat patients with a variety of conditions which may include frailty, tracheostomy, stroke and other neurological disorders.
  • Work collaboratively with the Speech-Language Pathologist to develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families on communication and swallowing strategies.
  • Participate in interprofessional teams to provide comprehensive care to patients.

Requirements

  • Completion of the Communicative Disorders Assistant Program.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of treatment techniques and implementation for the adult population.
  • Possess an attitude of respect and sensitivity towards clients with varied backgrounds, abilities and educational status.
  • Demonstrates superior problem solving skills.
  • Innovative and willing to learn.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and collaborative Interprofessional teamwork.
